Potions & Essences: Recipes, Discovery and the Potion Table

Updated 2026-09-02 · Roblox 100 Days At Sea

The short version: every potion in 100 Days at Sea is crafted from exactly three ingredients at the Potion Table (5 metal, 10 wood, 1 glue), and most of those ingredients are essences dropped by hostile entities. Recipes start hidden. The first time you craft a potion, the potion table marks it "discovered" and shows the recipe forever, even in later runs. If your three ingredients match no real recipe, you get a random Wacky Potion instead. The exact ingredient combinations for the greater healing potion, recall potion, and speed / swiftness potion are not documented in text yet: the only public recipe list is a community image that its own author calls "not proof-tested", so this page lists what is confirmed and marks the rest.

The five essences

Essences are the main potion ingredient. Every entity in the game can drop them occasionally, with bosses as the exception. The Fandom Entities page notes ghost pirates drop essences "about 2/3 of the time". There are five colours. The wiki only names the essences; the idea that each colour maps to a family of potions is implied by the names and is community-reported, unconfirmed.

Essences cannot go in your inventory, unlike ammo. You carry them in a sack or drag them by hand, then store them in a Storage Bin (12 wood) at base. The Fandom screenshot of a storage container shows red cubes marking 16 slots, but placing more than 16 essences in one container still works.

One warning from the wiki: essences roll, have collision, and weigh on performance. A pile of a few dozen will start lagging the area, and essences seem to be worse than corpses for this. Keep them binned.

Best places to farm essences

The Potions page names two farms. Both are covered in more detail on the islands page.

  1. Lever Squid Island. Pull a red lever repeatedly. Each pull spawns a ghost pirate. They always spawn behind the player, regardless of where the lever is, so you can stand still and spawn-kill. You get essences plus pirate corpses, which are worth 1 glue each in the crafting table. The blue lever is the one that summons the tablet; the red ones are only for farming.
  2. Dynamite Alien Island. The UFOs keep summoning aliens until you blow them up with the dynamite pile. Aliens are the weakest hostile entity in the game and "grant plenty of essence", so the wiki suggests leaving the UFOs standing and farming instead of taking the Alien Armour chest.

Both islands lag after a few dozen essences pile up, so collect and bin as you go.

How discovering potions works

Recipes are hidden when you first open the Potion Table. Discovery is simple:

  • Put three ingredients in the table and craft.
  • If the combination matches a real recipe, that potion is now "discovered". The table shows the recipe permanently, and it carries over to every future game on your account.
  • If the combination matches nothing, the table produces a random Wacky Potion. Wacky Potions are never recorded as discovered, no matter how many you make.

If the essence colours do map to potion families (unconfirmed), the practical approach is to experiment within one colour first (for example three healing essences, then two healing plus one of another colour), and to note that some recipes use non-essence items as one of the three slots. The wiki does not list which non-essence items are valid, so treat that as not documented yet.

Potion recipes: what is confirmed

The Fandom Potions page holds its full recipe list only as an image, credited to a community post and explicitly labelled "not proof-tested". No text recipe list exists in the sources this site uses, so the table below records the status of each potion players search for rather than guessing combinations.

If you need healing right now, the reliable options are food (see the food page) and the medkit, which is also the only way to revive a teammate. Do not spend essences hoping for a heal until you have actually discovered a healing recipe.

The "We Need to Cook" badge

The Fandom Badges page (badges pay out in pearls) lists We Need to Cook with the requirement "Discover all potion recipes in the potion index". The wiki calls it "significantly harder than most achievements, as it is hardly doable without having an external list". Like other badges, once earned it can be claimed once in the lobby for pearls (badges usually pay a few to about 20-30 pearls; the exact amount for this one is not documented yet).

Two things make this badge slow:

  • Wacky Potions do not count, so random experiments that miss a recipe give you nothing toward the index.
  • Discovery persists between runs, so you can chip away at it across many games instead of one long session.

Free potions from the Lil Wizard companion

The Lil Wizard companion is a supplier that "provides a random potion every 2 minutes". The companion tier list rates it 3 stars for early game and 4 for endgame, with the note that if you stock every potion, in the endgame you can pick which one to use. It is a way to see potion effects before you have discovered the recipe yourself. Whether Lil Wizard potions count as discovered in the potion index is not documented yet.

The POTION code

A code named POTION existed; that it launched with the potions update is community-reported, unconfirmed. Every codes page in the sources (Eurogamer, Destructoid, Beebom) now lists it as expired. The live list is on the codes page; recent codes paid 20 pearls each, though some sources report no working codes as of 1 September 2026.

Quick tips

  • Build the Potion Table once you have spare glue. The crafting page rates it optional but "it has potential".
  • Bin essences immediately; rolling essences are a main cause of island lag.
  • Recipes you discover are permanent, so experiment in a run you do not mind losing.
