Cargo Ship Explosion, Loot & Corrupt Portal Walkthrough
Updated 2026-09-02 · Roblox 100 Days At Sea
The short version: the cargo ship sails in around day 5 (day multiplier not counted) with the notification "A cargo ship has appeared amidst the storm!". You cannot drive it. It is guarded by purple, see-through corrupt crewmates and officers, and its main job is to hold the corrupt portal that leads to the corruption dungeon. To explode the cargo ship and get inside: pick up one of the fuel barrels lying on the deck, place it on the marked section of the hull, then shoot it. The blast opens the interior. From there you fight about 20 crewmen, collect four batteries from chests, slot them next to the door, and the portal room opens. The "secret room" people search for is the ledge above the portal, reached with the harpoon, holding two purple chests: a revolver and a corrupt shard.
What the cargo ship is
The Fandom wiki files the cargo ship under both boats and islands because it is a cosmetic ship: a structure you can board and loot but never sail. It arrives after around five in-game days regardless of your multiplier, so rescuing survivors or placing containers early does not bring it sooner.
The Boats page calls it "the origin of the corruption mechanics". Everything about the ship points at the portal; the deck loot (steel bars, fuel and similar early-to-mid game materials) is a bonus. The wiki notes that players strong enough to clear the ship usually already have gear that outclasses what they find on it.
Before the Corruption update the ship despawned 30 minutes after appearing and its purple chest gave a lightning rod. Both are gone now; the Chests page still lists the lightning rod, which is outdated. Whether the ship despawns at all today is not documented yet.
Enemies on board
| Enemy | Look | Approx. HP | Drop | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Corrupt Crewmate | Purple-transparent soldier with an axe | 100 | Its own corpse | Deck and first inner room |
| Corrupt officer | Purple-transparent soldier with a gun | 100 | Its own corpse | Deck and first inner room |
Damage values for both are not documented yet, and the wiki marks all its HP figures as approximate. They have far less HP than the saber wielders (375 HP) and minigunners (500 HP) waiting inside the dungeon, so the ship itself is a mid-game fight, not an end-game one. The full enemy list is on the entities page.
How to explode the cargo ship and get inside
| Step | What to do | What opens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Clear the crewmates and officers on deck | Free access to the hull |
| 2 | Place any fuel item (the fuel barrels on the ship work) on the designated section | Nothing yet |
| 3 | Shoot the fuel item; it explodes | The inside of the boat |
| 4 | Defeat about 20 corrupt crewmen and officers that spawn one wave after another | The battery task room |
| 5 | Open the chests in that room, take the batteries, slot all four into the sockets by the door | The portal section |
| 6 | Collect enough corrupt shards and the portal lights | The corruption dungeon |
Notes on the explosion:
- Any fuel item counts. The barrels already on the deck are the obvious choice, but a fuel item from your own crafting supply also works according to the wiki wording ("any fuel item").
- The fuel has to be placed on the designated section first. Shooting a barrel that is lying loose elsewhere is not documented as opening anything.
- Bring a ranged weapon; you need to shoot the fuel from a distance, and the ~20 enemy waves inside are easier with a gun than with melee.
- The chest room in step 5 is the one shown on the wiki as "the battery task room". How many chests it holds, and whether every chest must be opened to reach four batteries, is not documented yet.
The portal and the shard count
The portal lights once you hold enough corrupt shards. The Corruption page says 5 shards; the cargo ship section of the Islands page says 6. Treat the exact number as community-reported, unconfirmed, and keep collecting until the lighting cutscene plays. Sources of shards, with the one on the ship itself:
| Shard source | Repeatable? |
|---|---|
| Kraken raid, last tentacle slain | Yes |
| Greenbeard on the ghost galleon | Yes |
| Biome boss (Lord of Lava / King of the Snow) | Once |
| Ancient Squid boss | Once |
| Right-hand purple chest above the cargo ship portal | Once |
| Pirate stronghold cleared (shard appears with the green chest) | Once |
| MukuMuku merchant, 500 doubloons | Once |
Picking up extra shards after the portal is lit does nothing. When you leave the dungeon, finished or not, you always reappear on the cargo ship, even if you entered through a crafted portal at your base (the wiki marks this last detail with a question mark).
The "secret room": revolver and corrupt shard
Above the portal there is a raised section. Use the harpoon to climb up to it once the two inner rooms are cleared. Two purple chests sit there:
- Left chest: always a revolver (25 damage, 28.75 listed DPS, pistol ammo, 6-round magazine; the Cowboy class starts with one).
- Right chest: always one corrupt shard.
Both are one-time rewards. No other hidden room on the ship is documented.
The Weapons page also says the purple saber can rarely be found "astern in the sea or near the cargo ship after clearing the Corruption dungeon". Treat that as a rare drop, not something to farm.
Does the cargo ship change the day count?
Not directly. The Day count page's "Increasing with containers" section is about the four container structures: the craftable Survival Shelter plus the Container Shelter, Makeshift Building and Outpost found in the purple chests of the small, big and huge oil rigs. Each different container placed adds +1 to the day multiplier, for +4 total, and breaking every copy of one type removes its +1. None of these come from the cargo ship.
The ship's contribution to the day count is indirect: each time you finish the corruption dungeon behind its portal and kill the Corruptor, the multiplier goes up by +1, and that is the only repeatable multiplier source in the game.
| Multiplier source | Amount | From the cargo ship? |
|---|---|---|
| Containers placed (4 types) | +1 each, +4 max | No, oil rigs and crafting |
| Survivors rescued | +1 each, +3 max | No |
| Pirate stronghold cleared | +1 | No |
| All islands discovered | +1 | No |
| Ancient Squid boss | +1 | No |
| Biome boss | +1 | No |
| Corruption dungeon cleared | +1 per clear, repeatable | Yes, via the portal |
Related searches, answered briefly
- "How do you survive the mothership?" The Mothership is the alien invasion night, not the cargo ship. A UFO appears over your base and drops aliens, currently the weakest hostile enemies; clear them and an alien transponder drops. See nights.
- "How to despawn the galleon summoned with the galleon bell?" No manual despawn is documented. The ghost galleon vanishes on its own 2 min 30 s after its boss, Greenbeard, is slain (the wiki gives this timing while comparing it with the corruption dungeon's 5-minute despawn).
- "How to open doors on the ship?" On the cargo ship, doors open by progress, not by keys: explosion, then clearing the ~20 enemies, then four batteries. There is no lock to pick.
